How old is the competition?
The MISS INTERCONTINENTAL® competition was held in 1971 for the first time and will celebrate its 38th anniversary in 2008. It began as concurrent events in 1971 in Aruba.
Are the events held in a different place each year?
Not really although it was held many years in Aruba, many years in Nigeria and from 1991 till 2003 in Germany. Now we are moving with the pageant.
How is the Host Country chosen?
WBO officials are working throughout the year with interested companies, agencies or city governments. The city or country offering the optimal venue and the best support to the WBO Organization will be chosen.
How many women compete in Miss Intercontinental?
After all the UK heats and then the UK finals are complete, then 70 delegates participate in the international competition.
Are delegates allowed to have cosmetic surgery?
We usually appreciate the own natural beauty of each delegate. However there are no restrictions on cosmetic surgeries. The modern time makes it impossible to enforce such a law or rule.
How do the delegates get to the international competition?
We have National Directors in nearly all countries in the World and they will participate in each national competition before they are elected as a representative for Miss Intercontinental. This means that they have to win a city, state or national title (in this order), and dont forget the SMS text votes and the girl with the most donated to the deligated charity get to the UK finals (national title), to participate in Miss Intercontinental.
How is the winner chosen?
All delegates are judged in three areas of preliminary competition:
- Interview
- Swimsuit Competition
- Evening Gown Competition
The scores of the swimsuit and evening gown competition are entered into a computer. The delegate with the highest score is the winner. The following ones are the runner ups.
What prizes do the winners receive?
Each Titleholder is awarded cash and prizes from the event's official sponsors as well as a management contract with WBO for one year.
What happens to the winners after they are named?
As mentioned above, the managment contract with WBO includes an apartment in Germany for the year of reign and travel to many places in the world, appearing at events held by WBO and/or sponsors.
When are the competitions held?
Usually Miss Intercontinental takes place between April and July each year.
Who is broadcasting the competition?
We are always negotiating with the TV Channel in each country. They will receive the right to broadcast the event either Live or Taped.
